It’s summer, and everyone you know is heading to the beach or has already had their fun in the sun and sand. Is it the blue ocean waves or those gorgeous, unforgettable sunsets that you long for? Can’t get to the beach yourself? Just bring the beach to you with these refreshing drink recipes.
Ocean Blue Boozy Milkshakes
This milkshake will remind you of the color of the sea when you blend ice cream with blue curacao liqueur. The whipped cream on top will have you dreaming of waves crashing against the shore. It will feel like the beach, but without the sunburn and sticky sand!
Ingredients
- Graham cracker crumbs, for rimming the glasses
- 1 cup chilled heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar
- 3 ounces tropical-flavored vodka, mango vodka or pineapple vodka
- 2 pints vanilla ice cream
- 4 ounces blue curacao liqueur
- 6 drops blue food coloring
- Sliced oranges, for garnish
- Sliced star fruit, for garnish
Special equipment: drink umbrellas and drinking straws
Spread a layer of graham cracker crumbs about 1/4 inch thick in a shallow bowl or on a small plate. Moisten the rims of 4 glasses in a bowl of water, then dip in the graham cracker crumbs, twisting the glasses to thoroughly coat the rims in the crumbs. Freeze the glasses while you make the milkshakes.
In a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, whip the cream until foamy.
Sprinkle in the sugar and whip until the cream forms soft peaks. Whip in the vodka just to combine.
Combine the ice cream, blue curacao and blue food coloring in a blender. Blend on high until smooth and creamy.
Pour the ice cream mixture into the chilled glasses and top with the whipped cream.
Garnish the glasses with the sliced oranges and star fruit. Add a drink umbrella and straw. Swirl the straw in each glass a few times to create a wave effect.
