Bourbon
Bourbon consists of at least 51 percent corn and is aged in new charred oak barrels for at least two years. Buffalo Trace, Maker's Mark and Wild Turkey are among the most popular brands.
Tennessee Whiskey
Tennessee Whiskey is made almost exactly like bourbon but is filtered through charcoal, referred to as the "Lincoln County Process," which creates a softer, drier flavor of vanilla and caramel. Some of the best-known brands include Jack Daniels and George Dickel.
Rye
Rye must consist of at least 51 percent rye and is aged in new charred oak barrels for at least two years. Its flavor has been described as a drier, spicier version of bourbon. Jim Beam, Old Overholt and Sazerac are among the top-selling brands of rye.
Scotch
Scotch is a malt whiskey made from barley that is aged for a minimum of three years in oak casks. The quality and flavor vary based on the distillery and the age—which must be based on the youngest whiskey used to produce the bottle. The novice should know there are two types of Scotch: single malt, or blended. Johnny Walker, Macallan, and Glenlivet are among the most famous—yet pricier—brands of Scotch.
Irish whiskey
Irish whiskey is known for being smoother than its Scotch counterpart. Preparation involves a triple-distilling process and at least three years of aging in a wooden cask. Most Irish whiskeys are of the single malt variety. Jameson, Bushmills, and Redbreast rank among the best-known Irish brands.
Canadian whiskey
Canadian whiskey is blended and known for its lighter flavor and smoothness. Quality can vary, but brands such as Crown Royal and Canadian Mist have staked out their place in the market.
Single barrel selection
Whereas many whiskeys are blended from several different casks, a single barrel whiskey is bottled directly from an individual cask. In recent years, single barrel whiskey has become one of the most popular trends among spirits enthusiasts because of its rarity. No two single barrel bottles are alike, and each cask of a single barrel will have its own unique flavor. At Lincoln Road Package Store, we take pride in hand selecting single barrel whiskeys to provide our customers with a luxurious drinking experience.
