7 Can’t-Miss Coffee-Inspired Cocktail Recipes

Hattiesburg, MS

Lincoln Road Package Store knows three things for sure that Americans love: coffee, movies, and drinking alcohol. Statistically speaking, two-thirds of our country’s population drinks coffee daily. As a nation, we consume 102 billion cups of coffee annually.  Movies are just as popular, with 45 percent of U.S. adults watching or streaming movies at least once a week. The average American will see 5,000 films in a lifetime, according to a Utah Statesman article citing a Redbox study. Meanwhile, the typical American consumes approximately 1.35 alcoholic drinks per day. But nearly 70 percent of adults in the United States claim to drink weekly, which is the highest percentage recorded in our history.

What are we going to do with all of this knowledge? Lincoln Road Package Store has combined movies, coffee, and alcohol to bring you the best coffee-inspired cocktail recipes and their cinematic inspirations.

The Love Bug’s Irish Coffee

“The Love Bug” is a Disney family classic from 1968 in which a man and a misbehaving, sentient car join forces for the race of a lifetime. Spoiler alert: Herbie the car gets drunk on an Irish Coffee during this film and blows whipped cream out of his exhaust pipe.

To make your own classic Irish coffee, combine a cup of freshly brewed hot coffee, a tablespoon of brown sugar, one 1.5-ounce jigger of Irish whiskey, and some slightly whipped heavy cream. Pour your freshly brewed hot coffee into a warm glass until it is about three-quarters of the way full. Add brown sugar, and then stir thoroughly until it has dissolved into your concoction and blend with Irish whiskey. Top the rim with whipped cream and enjoy.

James Bond and Coffee Martinis

Ian Fleming’s 1953 book Casino Royale’s book immortalized the phrase: “Vodka martini. Shaken, not stirred,” that James Bond is famous for saying. His original drink order wasn’t made with coffee, but Mr. Bond has been caught on film drinking a variety of beverages. Why couldn’t a Coffee-Vodka Martini be your new favorite? Our favorite Coffee Martini recipe combines a double shot of Espresso, 2 ounces of premium vodka, and ice. Add these three ingredients to a shaker. Shake the mixture for at least one minute. Strain and pour into a martini glass. Remember for this one, it’s shaken, not stirred.

White Russians with “The Dude”

The Big Lebowski, who doesn’t bowl on the Sabbath, believes that if you can’t bowl, then you might as well drink (or do both at the same time). The Dude, a cult icon, drinks nine White Russians over the course of the movie. Here’s the recipe we’d use: combine 1.5 ounces of vodka with a half-ounce of each Kahlua, whole milk or heavy cream, and cold coffee—either pre-chilled or cold brew. Prepare an old-fashioned glass with ice. Pour in your ingredients, with the cream going in last, and then stir. Just be careful, man. There’s a beverage here.

Bruce Wayne’s Signature Cocktail

Adam West, Val Kilmer, Michael Keaton, Christian Bale, and Ben Affleck have all been the bat: vigilante superhero Batman by night, and millionaire Bruce Wayne during the day. Did you know that this longtime favorite superhero has his own mixed drink? Guess what? It contains coffee. The ingredients include 4.5 ounces coffee (chilled or cold brewed), a half-ounce of maple syrup, and 2 ounces of bourbon. Fill a shaker with ice. Add your coffee, vodka, and maple syrup. Shake until chilled and foamy, and then strain into your cocktail glass with ice.
