There are a variety of sangria recipes. In fact, you can pretty much make a sangria mix to suit any taste, but they all have these basic ingredients: wine, brandy, and ice, mixed with bold fruity flavors. The variations come into play by choosing different wines to compliment the fruits that you choose. Next, you have your sweeteners such as honey, sugar, or syrup. You can even use orange juice, Seltzer, or sodas like 7 Up or Sprite.
Choosing your fruits
Here are ideal varieties of fruits to use in your sangria mix: berries, tropical fruits, stone fruits such as peaches, plums, or nectarines, and citrus fruits. Sangria can be chilled anywhere from minutes to days, depending on the richness of flavor that you desire. The chilling process allows the fruit steep and infuses flavor into the mix.
Here are some of our favorite sangria recipes that are crowd pleasers.

Ingredients
- 3 cups watermelon balls (or approx. 3/4-inch chunks)
- 2 cups bing cherries, halved and pitted
- 3 limes, thinly sliced
- 1 lemon, thinly sliced
- 1 750 ml bottle white wine (a dry-ish white wine is best – like Sauvignon Blanc)
- 1/2 cup white rum
- 4 cups lemon-lime soda
Directions
In a large pitcher, add watermelon, cherries, limes, and then the lemons, in this order. Add wine and rum over the top of the fruit. Cover, and let chill in the refrigerator for 4-5 hours. Remove sangria mix from the fridge, add lemon-lime soda. To serve, add a few pieces of fruit to a glass, with ice (optional), then pour sangria mix. The mix will stay fresh for about 24 hours in the refrigerator. Tip: Add the lemon-lime soda right before serving to prevent a flat taste.
